Populations of wild animals are constantly in a changing state. Over the course of a single year, a local population of deer (or elk, or squirrels, or even catfish) will experience periodic increases as young are born (or hatched) or new individuals travel in from another region. Within that same year, that population may experience decreases from death due to harvest or natural causes and individuals leaving the area in search of a new home.
This constant ebb and flow in the number of individuals, and the age structure of the local community, is known by wildlife biologists as population dynamics.....

Marine Biologists Release Video of Male Seahorse Giving Birth | Biology | Sci-News.com

Marine biologists from the University of British Columbia were lucky to witness a New Holland seahorse (Hippocampus whitei) giving birth in the waters off of Little Beach in Nelson Bay, New South Wales, in November 2015.

The New Holland seahorse, also known as the Sydney seahorse or the White’s seahorse, is an endemic Australian species of fish in the family Syngnathidae.
This species grows to about 8 inches (20 cm) in length and occurs in depths down to about 65 feet (25 m) in shallow, weedy, inshore areas, in seagrass beds, on sponges, and often under jetties on kelp holdfasts............

Synthetic biology — which involves engineering biological systems for
new uses — has become an increasingly prominent, and promising, field
of study in colleges and universities worldwide.

Research has yielded, for example, viruses that attack harmful
bacteria, yeasts that produce biofuels, and engineered microorganisms
capable of detecting toxins in the environment, among many other innovations.
Yet high school students rarely learn about synthetic biology at all, says Natalie Kuldell, an instructor of biological engineering at MIT.

The issue, she says, is lack of accessible, hands-on curricula for such a
rapidly developing field......

Google’s Life Sciences team, the arm of the company working on
biology projects like a “smart” contact lens for diabetics, has a new
name as of Monday: Verily.
The Shakespearean-sounding moniker is part of a wave of rebranding that began this summer when Google restructured and placed its smaller, non-core internet businesses under a new parent holding company, Alphabet. Google’s Life Sciences division, which had been part of Google’s secret R&D lab Google(x), was one of those companies.
